For store owners/managers and web developers
If this is your first osCommerce store experience or you have used many other ecommerce programs you should start here. These are desk references you will use every day.
No special skills are needed to use user manuals, although some advanced html techniques are included for those web developers who wish to use them.
If you want the basics of setting up and managing osCommerce, CRE Loaded or ZenCart stores, get Users Manuals.

Installation and configuration manuals for web developers.
If you have previously set up an osCommerce store, OR are an html/PHP web developer and now wish to install, configure, and troubleshoot your own, the osCommerce Technical Manual will be right for you.
You should be experienced at using an FTP program and have some HTML and PHP experience. It is helpful to have some scripting language experience, but it is not required.

NOTE: There are currently no osCommerce books available for PHP programmers.

Problems with Ebook Pro are very rare and can be solved quickly and easily IF you get the EXACT error message. Don't guess!!
Are you using Windows with an Asian character set OR an Asian version of Windows (RUSSIA, JAPAN, CHINA, ETC.)? If yes, YOU MUST STOP NOW AND CLICK HERE
Are you using a firewall or anti-virus program set on VERY HIGH or MAXIMUM SETTINGS? If yes, YOU MUST STOP NOW AND CLICK HERE
1. Registration Failed - Username and Password Combination is Invalid.

Solution:

a. Did you key in the username and password properly, with NO SPACES before or after the username and password?
b. Did you download the Ebook you PAID for? Passwords for the Users Manual will not work in the Technical Manual, etc. Verify by looking at the title that appears in the top viewer bar.
c. Did BOTH your Ebook Viewer and the book itself download completely? Your connection may have timed out and not downloaded it fully. TO BE CERTAIN, DELETE IT and then re-download it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Some ftp programs are set to disconnect if there is no keyboard activity after X minutes. This will give you only part of the file. You may have to change your settings or move your mouse during the download to be sure it doesn't time out during the download.

2. Max registration limit reached.

Solution:

You can only register your Ebook on one computer at a time. To use it in two locations, you may
a. buy two copies, or
b. upgrade to paperback, or
c. select Help-Uninstall on the other computer.

TIP: If your computer has crashed and you can no longer access your previous version to uninstall it, you must send your userid to support@algozone.com so we can reset it for you.

3. The Ebook will not open, but the registration screen comes up. The viewer screen does NOT show the Table of Contents--IT IS WHITE--and the top bar of the viewer says "Ebook NOT FOUND".

Solution:

Your Ebook (the manual) is not fully downloaded or the file was corrupted during transit. You must DELETE IT and then re-download your eBook. (Don't just re-download it)

4. The Ebook will not open! The viewer screen does NOT show the Table of Contents, it is WHITE. The registration screen does NOT come up when I click.

Solution:

Your Ebook Pro VIEWER (the program) did not download fully, your connection timed out, or the file was corrupted during transit. You must DELETE IT and then re-download your VIEWER. (Don't just re-download it)

5. I get the error "Server busy, try again later" after I enter my username and password for the first time, OR I simply cannot get through, and the registration never finishes, OR I can see the text but not the pictures in my Ebook.

Solution:

You have a very strong Firewall or Anti-virus program that is preventing you from reaching our registration servers. The program has "timed out" (it just gives up and assumes that the server was busy) while it waited and waited and waited to register.

In order to complete your registration, you must:
a. temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus program, register, and immediately re-enable your firewall or antivirus program. (NOTE: If you recently downloaded Windows XP SP2 you may have a firewall installed and not realize it). OR
b. Use the Ebook on a different computer without the firewall or antivirus program.

6. My Ebook asks me to validate EVERY TIME!

Solution:

Vey rarely, but randomly, the Ebook will check to make sure you are still registered. It gives you the above warning several viewings in advance before it actually happens.

If it asks you to validate every time, then you have a Firewall or Anti-virus program that is preventing you from reaching our registration servers, so the registration you THOUGHT you did never actually takes place. The program "times out" or gives up, and waits until next time you log on to try again. Then the same thing happens.

Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus program, register, and immediately re-enable your firewall or antivirus program.

TIP: If you KNOW you will be viewing offline the next several times, select "HELP - VALIDATE NOW" while you are connected to the Internet to prevent the validation from taking place at an inconvenient time.

7. Ebook will not print. I cannot even find the print button

Solution:

Ebooks are for viewing on a computer only. You can print by doing a print screen in windows.

8. You are using Windows with an Asian character set installed on it OR an Asian version of Windows (RUSSIA, JAPAN, CHINA, ETC.) and you keep getting ALL the errors above!

The Ebook can be run on an English or European language system ONLY; this warning is on ALL PRODUCT PAGES AND in the FAQ. EVERY time you attempt to access the book it will ask you to register, it will tell you registration is invalid; it will tell you that you have reached your max number of registrations. The Ebook WILL NOT OPERATE ON ANY SYSTEM CONTAINING ASIAN CHARACTERS--REALLY! You CANNOT SUCCESSFULLY INSTALL THIS EBOOK PROGRAM!

9. I cannot run my Ebook on my Mac.

Solution:

a. Very advanced developers can run the Ebook software on your Mac if you have a PC emulator program such as Virtual PC or SoftWindows. If you are not already skilled at using these expensive programs, don't start learning them now. You need to focus on osCommerce, not PC emulation.
b. The Ebook Pro folks say they are going to come out with a Mac version, but there is no release date scheduled yet.
